I will never take Canadian geese for granted again!

I was watching out the window near my work cube this morning and noticed three Canadian geese frantically picking at the dormant grass recently uncovered by the melting snow. They were searching for food, their beaks covered in mud as they lifted their heads briefly from the ground. Clearly there was a leader of this little flock and when he (or she) decided it was time to move and seek out a new patch of dormant grass the other two followed.

Then I did a double-take!!!!  I noticed that the second (middle) of the three (they followed each other in a line) was a little slow. The leader knew to wait for the remaining two to catch up. But not only was the middle one slow ... it walked with a limp and favored it's left leg. I was amazed to watch this sight of these three little friends. I had never seen anything like this before. The third in line made sure to stand very close to the disabled bird as if to lend support while the leader monitored his pace as to not get too far ahead of his followers.

I mentioned this to my co-workers who informed me that every Spring for the past four years or so this little threesome would appear in the same location in search for food.

At that moment that God touched my heart and I was brought to tears!! Watching these two birds care for their disabled friend was overwhelming to me. They could have left it by itself and traveled to better places to find food but instead they stayed with their friend! They didn't abandon this precious bird! They didn't leave it in some field to fend for itself....they took (and continue to take) care of it.

Isn't that what we are meant to do with those in our community who are disabled? Aren't we meant to care for them? Stand by them? Love them? Nurture them? For all of you who work with the disabled I say "Thank You" and "God bless you".  Most of you know my passion for these precious, precious people in our midst. It is a divine calling!

If geese can do it...So can we!

Re: If Geese Can, So Can We!

We are presently working with the disabled of Bogotá, Colombia SA and are presently in the States on an extended home assignment waiting for God's timing to return to Colombia.

Thank you for sharing that tender and God's teachable moment. Thank you also for your work at IM and your heart for God's work here on earth.
