Respite Camps

Our respite camps (offered October through April) provide a Christian environment and programs that offer opportunities for significant growth in areas of self-esteem, independence, friendship skills, social comfort, peer relationships, adventure and exploration.

Respite at “camp” provides a broad range of opportunities to explore creation, make new friends, swim and go into the local community. The day is loosely scheduled with times of rest, activity, chapel and an occasional field trip. The pace is easy, the activities stimulating and the food excellent! A well-trained staff works with our nursing staff to be sure all guests receive first-rate care.

Parents and caregivers may worry about their loved one’s ability to cope away from home and about leaving his or her care with camp staff. Some find it difficult to admit they need a break from the stresses of caring for their loved one 24/7.  But this “time off” can help caregivers recharge and strengthen other important relationships. Both parties come together again with new perspectives and new things to share with each other.

Successful candidates for respite care are:

  • Adults 18 years and older with physical or cognitive challenges who do not need skilled nursing care
  • Limited behavioral problems and no problems that may endanger him/her or others
  • Minimal medical needs and medically stable
  • Diabetic care will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • Complete physical exam with signed doctor's orders for all treatments/prescriptions (including over the counter vitamins and creams) must be supplied
  • TB skin test within the last 18 months--if TB is positive, a chest X-ray and doctor's release is required
  • All medications must be in the original pharmacy labeled containers--NO self-packaged envelopes or medication strips.

All candidates for respite care are considered on a case by case basis. If you have questions, please call our camp office at 262.275.5753.

For safety reasons, scooters are not allowed on any Inspiration Ministries vehicle. For campers who use scooters, we require that they be able to be transferred to a manual chair (we will have them available) for transportation purposes.
