Watercraft Frequently Asked Questions
Can you pick up my boat?
Most certainly! We want to make the donation process as quick and
painless as possible. However, as auction time nears, we will only
be able to accommodate so many pick up requests. If you are considering
a donation, the earlier, the better. Generally speaking, pick ups
are most easily accommodated if they are within 30 miles of Walworth,
Wisconsin where we are headquartered.
Does my boat have to be running?
Not necessarily. Each situation is given individual attention. If
the donation is of value but doesn't run, it is still welcome. With
a quick phone call to Keith Harms or Noah Riemer at (262)275-6131
or an email to kharms@InspirationMinistries.org,
we can give you more details.
Does my boat have to be on a trailer?
Usually, but not always. If the boat has enough value to be sold
without a trailer and can be transported to our campus, it will
more than likely be welcome. Other situations will be looked at
individually.
What kind of condition does my boat need to be in?
Generally speaking, we are usually able to sell every boat donated
to us. However, we like to take boats that have trailers, have hulls
that are in good shape, and aren't "junkers" that people
are looking to unload. Boats that don't sell end up using resources
that are needed to help people with disabilities.
Can I get a tax write off for my boat?
Yes. You are eligible for a tax deduction equal to the price that
Inspiration Ministries sells your donation if it is over $500. If
it is worth less than that, you simply deduct the fair market value.
How do I get a receipt so I can take a tax deduction?
Once we have the title in hand, or a letter stating relinquishment
of ownership to Inspiration Ministries (check with the DMV for guidelines),
we will issue a receipt letter acknowledging the donation.
Car, Truck, and other Vehicle Frequently Asked Questions
Can you pick up my car if I decide to donate it?
Yes. If the vehicle runs, we would be more than happy to come pick
it up. Please keep in mind that as auction time nears, we will become
increasingly busy and not all requests might be honored. Generally
speaking, pick ups are most easily accommodated if they are within
30 miles of Walworth, Wisconsin where we are headquartered.
What condition does my car need to be in?
The vehicle must be able to be driven to our property when you donate
it and from our grounds when an auction buyer purchases it. Unfortunately,
if it isn't drivable, we will be unable to accept it. Poor body
condition and other minor details are no problem usually.
What if I lost the title?
Contact the DMV and apply for a new title, or ask them what options
are available for donating it without the title.
Can I get a tax write off for my car?
Yes. You are eligible for a tax deduction equal to the price that
Inspiration Ministries sells your donation if it is over $500. If
it is worth less than that, you simply deduct the fair market value.
How do I get receipted for the donation?
Once we have a title in hand, we will issue a receipt letter acknowledging
the donation. After the vehicle is sold, Inspiration Ministries
will send you a letter stating the amount it sold for and the necessary
IRS forms.
