| In March 2005, a unique concept emerged for the store space that once housed a bookstore, an idea that is benefiting the local area and IM residents. Inspiration Place is a resale shop and a social area as well.
The store has the dual focus of enabling residents while serving the community. The goal of Inspiration Place (named by the resident council) are:
To give residents another, comfortable social center
To give residents opportunities to earn money
To provide the public quality resale products in a relaxed environment
Customers are able to purchase limited new Bibles and books plus many used books and enjoy the coffee bar. They are also able to order from thousands of Christian products directly from the ministry’s online bookstore. IM’s online bookstore, HYPERLINK "http://www.XYZ.com" www.InspirationMinistries.spreadtheword.com, offers thousands of discounted books, Bibles, gifts, music, and software, and part of the proceeds benefit the ministry. The site can be accessed from a computer set up in the store or from any computer with internet access. Customers are also able to browse through and buy quality furniture and accessories, including a special bargain corner. To read more, click here.
Inspiration Place features household goods of all types plus a special section of resident-sold products including craft items. Residents who work at the store also benefit directly based on shop sales.
This store offers quality used items of all kinds. Things that once served their original owner are put to use again by inspired bargain hunters. Furniture, jewelry, books, outdoor equipment, sporting goods, technology, and other pre-owned items are donated on a regular basis.
The main benefit of having the store and the social area together in one place is the opportunity for residents to socially interact with the community and the community to get to know the ministry through those it helps.
As a ministry seeking to enable and encourage people with disabilities, this retail operation is operated by residents who work part-time and are under the management of a full-time staff member. Since interaction between residents and the community is essential to a well-balanced experience, the ministry encourages opportunities for interaction.
