Volunteer at Inspiration Retreat Center

Inspiration Retreat Center needs Mission Teams and individual volunteers to become the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to the campers with disabilities.
Some of the ways that Mission Teams and other volunteers serve at Inspiration Retreat Center include:
• Helping with camp work projects
• Befriending and assisting an adult with a disability
• Being an assistant to a counselor
• Helping out with crafts, music, drama, food service, housekeeping, and activities
We require each Missionary to be a committed Christian and willing to serve in a variety of ways. No experience is necessary, but we are also in need of volunteers who have experience in the following areas:
• Nurse (RN)
• American Sign Language
• Teaching special education
• Pastoral care/counseling
• Church disability ministry
• Youth ministry
• Certified Lifeguard
Mission Teams will be trained prior to arrival of campers. Short Term Missionaries will not provide personal or medical care. We provide an RN for this type of care.

Disability Awareness Training and Application

Ability Impact
Ability Impact can be customized to meet the needs of your group. The program's main focus is team building which is accomplished through disability sensitivity training, work projects, and ministry. This program can benefit any type of group.

Team building
Relationships are built as your Impact Team works, serves, prays and plays together. Time is built into the daily schedule to focus on spending time with God, small group sharing and debriefing. Afternoons are reserved for your Impact Team to relax with time for recreation.

Work Projects
Touch people's lives throughout the year as you leave a tangible mark on Inspiration Retreat Center. Work together on projects that enhance our facility and grounds. Projects include building furniture, expanding the nature trail, painting, and stacking fire wood. A "foreman" will see that you have the tools and supplies necessary to keep you going and get you to lunch on time.

Project Adapt

Project Adapt can be customized to meet the needs of your group. The program's main focus is on training, and then serving as a counselor. It is best suited for people who are entering or are new in the field of serving people with disabilities.

Training
Pre-camp training Sunday evening and Monday will focus on the 10 commandments of communicating with people with disabilities, how to transfer, and a disability overview. We will cover key ways to adapt your programs for the disabled.

Serving as a counselor
Gain valuable experience in serving people with disabilities as a counselor. Help us accomplish a successful program that touches hearts for Christ. The Project Adapt program is staffed by the Inspiration Center Director, the Program Coordinator, a nurse, a chapel speaker, and the food service team.
